I had a rude awakening today. You see, every day I set my alarm to wake me up with the radio rather than that irriating, worse-than-nails-on-a-chalk-board, sounding alarm on my clock. Apparently the Toronto Police have been going behind my and every other person in Toronto's back by conducting a four day sting operation against people who seek others to  pay to have sex with, in the Parkdale community. They ended up arresting 127 men, and laying 154 charges in total in the operation (or as I like to call it, "a waste of cash"), titled 'Project Clean Sweep'. The police and AM 640 (the news program I heard it on), made a special point of mentioning that 10 of the men they arrested are cab drivers (What? Is it newsworthy to mention that even cabbies get horny from time to time?), and they also mentioned that a few of the other men they arrested had baby seats in cars. What's the point of mentioning that they have baby seats? Oh my gawd, Why did those Baby Car Seats have to witness such a thing! Obviously these men are sexually active if they have kids! Besides there weren't any kids IN the car at the time, which is the important thing.

The police and which ever person agreed to fund this project should be ashamed of themselves. What they are doing is completely immoral. That's right, I said immoral. Immoral because at a time when we still have over a thousand missing prostitutes in Canada (several from Toronto), and hundreds of unsolved murders of prostitutes in Canada including Toronto, how dare the police and government waste millions of tax payers dollars, and expending vastless amounts of resources on these sting operations! My friend Lian Pham, was murdered in Parkdale (the same community that had the sting operation), just over a year ago, the police have since given up on finding her killer, instead choosing to close her file.  The money and energy that went into this sting operation would have been much better spent solving the many, many murders of prostitutes. According to a 1995 StatsCan study, only a little more than half of the cases involving murdered prostitutes went unsolved, compared with only 20 per cent of other homicides. This makes me wonder,  does the crime of prostitution outweigh that of murder?
